1837 Letter Donated to Fish House
In March of this year, we were contacted by a relative whose mother would summer on the shores of the Sacandaga Lake in the oldest house in Fish House,,,called The Shew House. Many old artifacts were in the house when her mother was there. This past year, in cleaning out her mother's house in Stowe, Vermont, she came across a letter that had been addressed to S.M. Page dated 1837. After much research, it was discovered that S.M. Page had lived in the Shew House during 1837. The letter was written to him by WmC Bouck who was on the Erie Canal Commission and was in charge of payment for people who worked on the canal. Wm C Bouck would later become the 15th governor of New York State. Below are several photos of the letter.
